Experience an unforgettable night at the Road to Resilience Gala as we honor the lives of our courageous wartime allies who risked it all to serve the United State's interests in conflict and war zones.
Join us in a vibrant celebration as we shine a spotlight on the unwavering spirit of some remarkable women and girls who now call Rochester home. Their stories of triumph witness to the strength of the human spirit. In their new country, these resilient individuals are forging distinctive paths—pursuing education, discovering talents, and nurturing passions as they embrace their newfound freedom far from the shadows of the Taliban. The event will feature a full sit-down dinner with music, a silent auction, keynote speaker, Dr. Nadia Hashimi, and desserts provided by various generous local bakeries.
Dr. Nadia Hashimi is a pediatrician turned international bestselling author. Her 7 novels for adults and children are inspired by the people and history of Afghanistan, and are read around the world in translations. Her writings on Afghan women and the fall of Afghanistan have also been featured in Ms Magazine, NPR, and Mother Jones.
During Operation Allies Welcome, she consulted for US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants to help design and implement a psychosocial support program for Afghan evacuees. She is a board member of the Afghan-American Foundation, Sahar Education for Girls, Aschiana Foundation, and is a member of the US Afghan Women's Council and Welcome.US. Originally from New York, she lives with her husband and four children in Potomac, Maryland.
Whether or not you are joining us for our gala fundraiser, we welcome your generous contributions to help us achieve our 2024 resettlement budget goals. Every dollar matters- making a difference to those who receive a second chance at life in our welcoming Rochester community.
Thank you for supporting KOP staff and volunteers in this important work!
